Hello and welcome to my blog!!!
I'm excited to get acquainted with you, share my passion, and hopefully spread some inspiration. To start, I'll share a little background. I'll keep it brief and invite you to subscribe and reach out without hesitation.
I cannot remember a time that fashion, style, and art was not in my life. From the age of seven I knew I was going to be a hairstylist. How did I know this? At 55, I can't even answer that question but my family believed this was my path and I do feel very privileged that I have had the opportunity to pursue my dream.
For years I had the same hairstylist at Suki's in Vancouver. Her name was Fiona and she was my inspiration. She knew from the first day she started cutting my hair that I had a dream.
When I was 15, one of the salon apprentices graduated to Suki's Academy and a part-time position working weekends opened up. I applied and the rest is history. I was in my glory and gave it my all. Soon, I quit high school and started working full-time. I was in training twice a week and there was no turning back and nothing was going to stop or distract me. I was right where I belonged. I completed my two-year apprenticeship and then headed to LA for three months of advanced training at Vidal Sassoon. Soon I was on the floor cutting hair and building my clientele as one of the youngest stylists at Suki's.
In 1995, I wanted to add to my trade so I went to the Blanche Macdonald Centre in Vancouver and studied make-up artistry and fashion styling. This opened the door to work on photo shoots, fashion shows, music videos, and model agents. The opportunities were endless.
As the years went on, I moved to Powell River in 2002 and then to Cortes Island in 2011, sharing my passion with many. In 2023, I moved back to the qathet region and was given an amazing opportunity to share Graham Winters' salon. Upon his retirement, I took over the Madcap Beauty Spot on February 1, 2024.
For the past two years I have been and continue to be a one-lady show, building my business. It's been an honour to serve my community again. Many of my past clients have found me, as well as many new clients and visitors too. Although my focus has been on hairstyling since my return, I've also wanted to share some of my other skills and incorporate them into my Beauty Spot. This encouraged me to take my image consultant course through IPA Career College which has opened so many different avenues to explore. The idea to assist as many people as possible in my community and around the world, and to build confidence and inspiration just brings me so much joy and excitement.
Thank you for stopping by my blog. I look forward to meeting each of you. If it's in person or virtually, I welcome you to the Madcap Beauty Spot.
